The Goliat crane at Stord blows up 16th of May

At 12 o’clock today, 16th  May 2014, the 56 years old Goliath crane at Kvaerner Stord will be blown up. Earlier this spring it was moved to Kvaerner’s demolition yard at Eldøyane. Today 20 dynamite elves will destroy a long career. Goliath crane was first taken into use in 1958 in England. It was sold to Stord 10 years later. The first job at Stord was 1st March 1969. A boiler of 200 tons was lifted aboard the supertanker T / T King Haakon.
Latest job was on 28th June 2013, when it lifted the heli deck cabin on the hotel module on Eldfisk 2/7 S. Source: tu.no

The replacer was installed last summer and it is one of Europe’s largest cranes. The new bridge crane has a lifting capacity that is more than twice as much as the old one. The new crane is 115 meeter high, the old had a height of 74 meters.
