Travelling to Reykjavik

Friday October 17 we went to Reykjavik. All the participants met up and no illness or other unforeseen obstacles came in the way for our weekend in Iceland.

DSCN2002At Keflavik everyone travelling from Bergen and Haugesund / Oslo met and took the bus into the Blue Lagoon where we had a few hours to relaxation. This is recreation at its best. With 39 degrees in the water, cold beer and a fistful of mud in the face, this fountain of youth does wonders for stiff and aching bodies.

With smooth faces and some more groggy than others, we sat on the bus again and went to the hotel. Center Hotel Plaza is located very centrally at Ingólfstorg Square. Perfect location with shops and restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

A good bunch decided to eat tapas in the evening. This was a great start “food-tasting tour” that weekend evolved to become.

Saturday morning went almost the whole gang on the Golden Circle tour. Here they saw Gullfoss, Geysir and Tingvellir. A great experience that is a “must” to get along when one is in Iceland.

DSCN2155Saturday we ate together at Laekjarbrekka where we enjoyed a fantastik 3-course dinner.

Many went around on their own and explored caves, hunted the northern lights, riding on Icelandic horses, drove snowmobiles, went shopping and so many other exciting things. There is a lot to do, just time and money puts a stop to everything you want to do.

Sunday we had ordered “tasting menu” on Grillmarkaðinn -meaning grill market. What an experience this turned out to be! It was a wonderful selection of small and tasty dishes like duck, lamb, fish, whales, and other treats. With stars in our eyes we tasted us through different appertizers, dinner dishes and especially desserts. This goes down in history as some of the best we’ve ever tried.DSC_0332
